Should Students Change for PE?
In order to maximize instructional time in Physical Education, and be mindful of the developmental needs of our students, we have established the following guidelines:
· All students must wear clean, indoor non-marking athletic shoes.
It is a great idea, if your son or daughter, has a pair of shoes that they leave at school for PE.
· Grades MA to Gr. 2: Students should wear comfortable clothes to school on the days that they have PE and will not change for PE class unless instructed to do so by their parents.
· Grades 3 to 5: Students must wear comfortable appropriate clothes for PE. Students are encouraged to quickly change into appropriate PE attire or may they may wear PE type clothes to school. Each student will be responsible, with guidance from the PE teacher, to make sure they are dressed in PE clothes for class.
The PE teachers will monitor all students’ hygiene as well as developmental growth, and make suggestions on an individual basis.
For Example:
Student A wears shorts, a T-shirt and sandals to school. They are not required to change as they are wearing clothes appropriate to move, run, tumble and play in. However, they must change their shoes.
Student B wears jeans and a jumper to school. They are required to change for PE.
Student C wears a skirt or dress to school. They are required to change for PE.
Student D wears shorts, t-shirt and runners to school. During class the teacher notices they sweat excessively. The PE teacher will suggest to the student that they have a change of clothes for hygienic reasons.
